Police probe OTJ investigator for harassment

The police have begun investigating allegations that Mohamed Ibrahim, an investigator at the Ombudsperson’s Office for Transitional Justice (OTJ), harassed and threatened his co-workers.

43-year-old Mohamed Ibrahim had been arrested from Male’ on June 13, for suspected drug use. The Criminal Court had initially remanded him into the custody of police for seven days, but denied an extension to the remand and released him from custody on Tuesday.

Police said it a statement Wednesday that he was also being investigated for media reports that he had harassed and threatened his co-workers.

The police have made an official request to the office to see it anything of the sort happened, said a police spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the police said they would request charges against Mohamed Ibrahim in the drug case against him as soon as the investigation is complete.
