Kolamaafushi to be reclaimed in a second term for housing

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to reclaim GA. Kolamaafushi for the development of flats or row houses if elected for a second term in office.

Speaking to residents of the island during a visit to Kolamaafushi on Thursday as part of his ongoing campaign tour of Gaafu Alifu Atoll – the president said he stood before the residents with a manifesto even in 2018.

He noted that the requests voiced out back by then by Kolamaafushi residents are being fulfilled under this manifesto such as the harbor development project and road development project.

His pledges for Kolamaafushi, if elected for a second term, include;

  • Reclamation of the island for the development of flats or row houses
  • Installing revetment at the eroding site in west of the island
  • Increasing the capacity of the ice plant and establishing a cold storage
  • Upgrading the health centre to a mini hospital

Speaking further, President Solih said Kolamaafushi was an important island for MDP’s political activities.

“My request to Kolamaafushi residents is to get out and vote for us on September 9th to secure the peaceful Maldives you desire,” he added.

He cited what the citizens should consider the presidential elections near as to whether move forward with development or return to the political unrest and instability previously in place.

He added that the decision of Kolamaafushi residents was abundantly clear.

In his meeting with Kolamaafushi residents, President Solih also accepted membership forms from a group of former PPM activists from the island that newly joined MDP.
