The last session of the parliament for the year is slated to begin on next Monday.

People’s Majlis, on Wednesday, said the first sitting of the third session of the parliament will be held at 9:00am on Monday morning. However, the agenda of the sitting is yet to be disclosed.

The parliament, throughout most of the second session, was in a deadlock after no-confidence motions filed against the speaker and the deputy speaker prompted them to recuse themselves from presiding over sittings. Moreover, the delays in reconstituting the parliament’s committee after several MPs from main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) left the party. Further exacerbated the deadlock.

The second session of the parliament concluded on June 22nsd as MDP MPs begged to extend the session to constitute the committees.

Two extraordinary sessions were called by MDP later. During one held July 10th, the formation of the committees was greenlighted as proposed by MDP.
