President Solih meets Maldivian contingent for IOIG 2023

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed, on Sunday, met with the Maldivian contingent participating in the 11th edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) set to be held in Madagascar.

Maldives’ flag bearers for IOIG 2023 were announced during the meeting held at the Social Centre on Sunday.

In this regard, the flag bearers were revealed as prominent tennis player Abdulla Faih Fazeel and prominent table tennis player Fathimath Dheema Ali.

President Solih presented the flag to Dheema, which will be flown during the games.

176 athletes from the Maldives will participate in 9 sporting events at this year’s IOIG, including table tennis, tennis, handball, para-athletics, swimming, and basketball. The sports event will take place from August 25th to September 3rd in Madagascar.

The President’s Office states the current administration places significant emphasis on providing opportunities for Maldivian athletes to realize their full potential and on fostering a talented, capable, and healthy young generation.
