President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to develop a resort in the lagoon shared by the islands of Fulhadhoo, Fehendhoo, and Goidhoo in B. Atoll.

President Solih resumed his campaign tour on Monday morning, after cutting short his trip last week due to illness.

His first stop was Fulhadhoo.

Addressing a rally at the island, President Solih said that no other leader had ever prioritized the development of islands with smaller populations.

He said that over 100 people had ruled Maldives before him, not a single one of whom tried to develop smaller islands.

“The people were used to fulfill the whims of the rulers,” he said.

He said that the ‘Jazeera Manifesto’ his administration composed after coming to power in 2018 brought an end to that.

“Who doesn’t want to live here? In this happy place? But people aren’t able to live here because the government hasn’t showed them how,” he said.

President Solih said the availability of essential services is crucial to building a life, anywhere.

President Solih said made several electoral pledges for Fulhadhoo, including the promise to develop a resort in the lagoon the island shares with Fehendhoo and Goidhoo.

He pledged to develop a floating jetty, and build an indoor volleyball court, a community center, a waste management center, and an accommodation block for government employees.

He also pledged to open a lab at the island’s health center.

“I believe I am making good changes,” he said.

President Solih said he believes the projects will develop Fulhadhoo, and serve as an incentive for people who wish to relocate to the island.
