Qasim: I cannot support any other candidate anymore

JP's leader and candidate for the Presidential Elections 2023, Qasim Ibrahim.

JP’s leader and presidential candidate, Qasim Ibrahim has said that he is tired of trying to help political parties to gain power and therefore, he cannot support one specific person any more.

Speaking at Fuvahmulah during his campaign visit, Qasim said that the political parties of Maldives have failed and that he no longer has the patience for them.

He further said that he has helped MDP come to power twice however both presidents that were elected acted against the constitution and that PPM also acted in the same way.

Reminding everyone that during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration, the then head judge of the criminal court, Abdulla Mohamed, was wrongfully arrested and that the doors to People’s Majilis were locked, he said that even now, in President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, the doors have been locked.

“So please forgive me. I cannot support them. Those parties have surely failed. I’ve helped MDP come to power twice. Both times they violated the Constitution. Both Presidents acted against the constitution. PPM has also done the same,” Qasim said.

As President Solih has recently granted GDh.Thinadhoo the title of city, Qasim criticised that and said when declaring a place a city, there needs to be adequate services established there and that declaring Thinadhoo a city without developing it is just a facade put on to gain people’s vote.

He further said that no benefit came from declaring both Addu and Fuvahmulah cities. He explained that the reason he says that is because the people of both cities have not seen more jobs being created for them, nor have they gained any financial benefit, nor has there been ways established to live by one’s self.

Qasim said that if he is elected as President, he will fulfil all that the people of Fuvahmulah ask for and that he will bring unimaginable financial gain for the people.
