Opposition PPM-PNC coalition's presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu speaks at a campaign rally in K. Kaashidhoo.

Opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to develop a resort in K. Kaashidhoo lagoon to further opportunities in the tourism sector for Kaashidhoo residents in addition to further boosting its widely practiced agricultural sector.

Kaashidhoo was the first stop for Muizzu on Tuesday in his campaign tour of Kaafu Atoll. Speaking at a campaign rally held at the island, Muizzu unveiled plans to carry out major economic projects at Kaashidhoo.

Underscoring agriculture was undertaken by many residents even at present – he pledged to further boost the sector, by ensuring development through a higher allocation of priority than the current administration.

He noted increasing agricultural produce to ensure food security across the nation as an aim.

“This island will become an island which plays a significant role in this. Therefore, what I have to say, painting your dreams a reality will be our happiness and our honor,” he added.

Muizzu said opportunities will be facilitated for not only farmers already involved in the agricultural sector, but individuals who wish to venture into the sector. He stressed that this would create additional paths for the youths to earn an income.

Speaking further, the opposition coalition’s candidate pointed out that local tourism was booming on the island, with its land use plan having areas allocated for local tourism.

“Instead of just land being allocated that way, our aim will be for those plots to be accessible to investors,” he explained.

He attributed difficulties in finding investors to the current economic stature of the country, alleging investors had no trust at present; a situation he pledged to change.

He also said the development of a resort by reclaiming the island’s lagoon will be extremely beneficial for Kaashidhoo – pledging to also pursue this project.
