Muizzu pledges to make WAMCO’s waste collection fees ‘reasonable’

Opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, citing the fees levied by WAMCO for waste collection in Male’ area as ‘extremely high’, has pledged to cut down the fees if elected.

Speaking after inaugurating a party centre of PPM in Maafannu district on Wednesday evening – Muizzu said the people have been subjected to unbearable hardships due to the high waste collection fees. He attributed the high waste collection fees as one of the reasons why working-class people in addition to small and medium enterprises are facing bankruptcy.

Therefore, he pledged to cut down the high fees, to ‘reasonable’ amounts, if elected.

“WAMCO has set high fees, not because the company is not profiting, but because the company is not run properly,” he added.

Muizzu stressed that WAMCO can be transformed into a profitable company by appointing capable individuals to the management and good structuring.

He also said he would strengthen the operations of WAMCO, if elected, apart from cutting down the company’s waste collection fees.

WAMCO introduced a new waste collection fee with respect to places apart from households last July, which ranges between MVR 250 and MVR 950. Some businesses had raised concerns over the increased prices back then.
