Azleen appointed as JP’s new secretary-general

Former home minister Azleen Ahmed has been appointed as Jumhoory Party (JP’s new secretary-general.

JP’s spokesperson Ali Solih told the press on Sunday that the appointment was made by the party’s leader Qasim Ibrahim.

The position was previously filled by former Kelaa MP Ali Arif.

Arif denied reports he had resigned from JP.

He said that he had initiated the handover process, so Azleen can take over as the party’s secretary-general.

Azleen had serves as home minister during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration. But following Yameen’s re-election defeat in 2018, Azleen left the PPM, and later joined JP, in 2019.
