Voters registered to overseas for runoff doubles

Statistics released by the Elections Commission (EC) show the number of voters registered to polling stations overseas for the presidential election runoff have nearly doubled, compared to the figures during the first round of voting on September 9.

In a post on X on Monday, EC’s vice chairman Ismail Habeeb said 6,223 voters are registered to polling stations overseas for the runoff – nearly double the 3,327 voters during the first round.

The greatest number of voters are registered to three ballot boxes in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Total 2,555 voters are registered to KL. This includes 915 voters registered to box 1, 780 registered to box 2, and 825 registered to box 3.

This is an increase of 1,132 voters compared to the first round.

With 271 additional voters, total 442 voters are registered to vote in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Meanwhile, 1,603 voters are registered to two boxes in Trivandrum, India; 1,310 to two boxes in Colombo, Sri Lanka; and 888 to the box in London, United Kingdom.

Total 282,804 people are eligible to vote in the election runoff on September 30. This includes 144,410 female voters and 138,394 male voters.

The election runoff will see opposition PPM-PNC’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who won 46 percent of votes in the first round, face off against MDP’s Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the incumbent president, who won 39 percent.
