Underscoring a harder feat was next, President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on his campaign teams to uphold friendship in order to remain in power.

Speaking at a meeting with Male’ area campaign teams in celebration of the election win on September 30th at Social Centre on Thursday night – Muizzu extended gratitude to every individual who sincerely contributed to his campaign works across the Maldives.

“The tireless work you all stood up and did, day and night, in order to take us to Maldivians’ Maldives, is national work.  This work has secured a chance for us to brighten our nation’s future, by the will of God,” he said.

Muizzu stressed that upholding success will be much more difficult than achieving success. On this note, he said next comes the work of remaining in power.

“Therewith, I am requesting everyone to show the same friendship shown in winning this campaign in our efforts to save this nation; by rolling up our sleeves with even firmer determination,” he said.

He said next was the work to steer the nation to the right path. He appealed to the campaign teams to uphold friendship and remain united in order to move forward together.

Muizzu, who contested September’s presidential election on PPM-PNC coalition’s ticket, won the election by a landslide difference of votes. He won the first round with 101,635 votes, the highest number of votes, although he failed to secure 50 percent of the total votes. Meanwhile, he won the runoff with 129,159 votes, amounting to 53.8 percent of the total votes.

The president-elect is scheduled to be sworn in on the evening of November 17th at the Republic’s Square. People’s Majlis is undertaking efforts to prepare for the ceremony while Muizzu is undertaking important work to form his government in the transitional phase.
