4,000 flat recipients to receive documents next week

The Planning Ministry will release the permanent list of eligible people for the flats allocated under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme on Tuesday.

Planning Ministry State Minister Akram Kamaludeen could not be reached for comment as he did not respond to repeated calls from Sun.

Some media reported quoting the Planning Ministry that the permanent list will be issued and the first documents will be issued to 4,000 people.

The Housing Ministry announced the provisional list of flat recipients and announced that everyone that is eligible will be given a flat on August 8.

The list includes 20,697 people. Of these, 6,208 applied for two-bedroom flats. 14,489 people applied for three-bedroom flats.

The list shows that 15,046 of the applicants are eligible. These include 4,319 people eligible for two-bedroom flats and 10,727 people eligible for three-bedroom flats. A total of 13,500 flats will have to be built to provide them all.

Two Indian companies, JMC and NBCC, are working on building 4,000 flats under the 'Gedhoruveriyaa' scheme. The 32 housing towers will be completed and people will be able to move into them by 2025, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) said.
