Civil Service Commission (CSC) has decided to grant easements to working conditions of new mothers in civil service till their child turns two years old.

A circular by CSC on Thursday urged institutions to maintain similar standards while granting easements to the work conditions of new mothers in civil service under Article 183 of the Maldives Civil Service Regulation publicized in 2014.

As per the circular, they may be granted easements till their child turns 24 months (two years).

However, the easements, as per CSC, must be facilitated in a manner that does not hinder the work of the respective institution and does not cut down staff’s working hours by more than half.

CSC also said the salaries and allowances of the staff should not be deducted during this period, despite easements to their working conditions.

Prior to this, new mothers in civil service only received three months of maternity leave. The current administration has extended maternity leave for six months in 2019, and increased the paternity leave for furthers from three days to one month.
