President Muizzu makes new appointments to Police Board

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Thursday, dismissed some members of the Police Board, and made new appointments to replace them.

Police Board comprises two presidential appointees, three members with education and experience in a technical area, and two members from the general public, selected from applicants.

The two members from the general public will need approval from the parliament.

The current composition of the Police Board, with Thursday’s changes, is as follows;

  • Ahmed Shareef - Appointed by the President
  • Aishath Noora Mohamed - Appointed by the President
  • Uz. Ali Naseer Gasim - Professional from a technical field
  • Ahmed Azeem - Professional from a technical field
  • Ahmed Saudhy – Professional from a technical field
  • Hamid Abdul Ghafoor - Selected from the general public
  • Uza. Safa Shareef - Selected from the general public

The Police Board is responsible for appointing the police commissioner and deputy police commissioners, conducting the vetting process for their appointment, and providing their counsel to the Home Minister and other officials they are legally obligated to counsel.
