Women arrested for prostitution with a large sum of money

An expatriate woman has been arrested from Male’ City on suspicion of prostitution.

The 39-year-old Thai woman was arrested on suspicion of prostitution with a large sum of money. Criminal Court, on Monday, remanded the woman in custody for three days.

The money was discovered in her handbag during her arrest.

The judge, in the remand order, noted she had confessed that she earned the money through prostitution.

Police, at court, noted that while she had entered the Maldives on three occasions previously, she presently does not possess a valid visa.

Citing a possible threat to public safety should she go free, the Criminal Court decided to remand the woman is custody for three days. Her remand is set to expire on Thursday afternoon.
