Police officers will receive a salary increment starting March, says Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan.

The Pay Commission had finalized and shared the new pay structure for the police and Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) a day before the new administration took office.

Back then, the President’s Office announced that the new pay structure would come into effect in the start of this year.

However, the changes were later postponed due to financial constraints.

A source within the government told Sun that the pay increment will be implemented within the next two months.

On Wednesday night, CSP Shifan wrote on X that the Finance Ministry has informed the police that the pay increment for the institution will be implemented starting March 1.

But the exact date for the pay increment for the MNDF remains unclear.

During his presidential campaign, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu pledged to double the salary of police and MNDF officers.
