Acting Male’ Mayor Ahmed Nareesh says physical works on the development of four parking buildings planned for Male’ City will commence next month.

Speaking at a campaign rally of PNC’s Male’ mayoral candidate Azima Shakoor at Maafannu Fini Park on Tuesday night – Nareesh said the development of four parking buildings will commence next month as Male’ land use plan has now been approved.

He detailed that the first parking building will be located near Maafannu Fini Park area.

“One of the biggest issues faced by the residents of this area is parking. Cars had driven on these roads before. But they can’t now. We will solve this issue for the people living in this area through this parking building,” he said.

However, he stressed that such a solution can only be brought by electing a mayor who will collaborate with the government.

Nareesh said the city council had requested the former administration to extend the period of land issued to the council to develop a parking building by 50 years. He detailed the council had been denied the request after securing a loan from Maldives Islamic Bank to develop a parking building with a capacity of 1,800 cars on the land.

Nareesh assumed the responsibility of Male’ Mayor following the resignation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to assume office.

Lack of parking space is a major issue for the overcrowded Male’ City. Facilitating additional parking space in Male’ City is among the goals the new administration aims to achieve in the first 100 days.

Police have stopped issuing parking stickers till additional parking space is established in Male’ City for vehicles.
