The Maldives is set to break the record for highest single-day tourist arrivals on Sunday with over 10,000 visitors.

The current record for highest single-day arrivals was set on February 3, when the country welcomed 8,900 visitors.

In a post on X, Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal said the country will break this record on Sunday.

Faisal said he expects 10,213 tourists to visit the Maldives on Sunday.

“The highest number of tourist arrivals ever recorded on a single day!” wrote Faisal. “My sincere gratitude goes out to all stakeholders of the industry for the incredible feat.”

The Maldives, which won the 2023 WTA for World's Leading Destination for the fourth consecutive year, expects a record 2 million tourist arrivals this year.

According to visitor data released as of February 5, China is back on top as the biggest source market for tourist arrivals to the Maldives, with 28,304 visitors. In second place is Italy with 23,749 visitors, followed by Russia with 21,399 visitors.

Maldives plans on opened 20 new resorts this year, creating 2,857 more tourist beds, as it eyes an increase in arrivals once the project to expand the Velana International Airport is complete.
