Three people have tested positive for Filariasis from R. Fainu.

Fainu Council, in a notice on Monday, said three expatriates tested positive for Filariasis during a Filariasis screening program conducted for the expatriate population of the island.

The council, along with the island’s health centre, are implementing the necessary measures in light of the positive cases, read the notice.

Sun was unable to obtain further information regarding the matter as Fainu Council and health centre had not responded to calls seeking a comment.

The eradicated mosquito-borne disease, Filiarisis, was detected in Kulhudhuffushi City on December 14th.

So far, the cases have been restricted to the country’s migrant population.

A major Filariasis screening campaign has been launched across the nation following these cases.

As Filariasis is a mosquito-borne disease – the most crucial preventive measure one can take against the disease is protecting one’s self against mosquitoes, including the elimination of breeding grounds.
