18-year-old motorbike rider breaks leg after crashing into bus

A bus and motorbike collided in an accident in Male’ City on Wednesday night, leaving a young man driving the bike injured.

According to the police, the motorbike was travelling on the Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu from west to east when it crashed into the back of a public bus which was at the STELCO bus stop, before crashing into a car on the other side of the street.

An eye witness told Sun the accident took place in the Usfasgandu area. The witness reported seeing the young man lying bleeding on the ground.

He was taken to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment.

A spokesperson from IGMH identified the patient as an 18-year-old Maldivian male. He is being treated at the hospital’s Emergency Room.

“The man fractured his leg due to the way he fell from the motorbike. The bone was protruding out. He requires surgery,” said the spokesperson.

The accident resulted in damages to the motorbike, the bus and the car.

According to the police, the young man driving the motorbike does not have a driver’s license.

The accident is under investigation by the police.
