President Muizzu responded that an agreement had been signed to install additional elevators, and that the contractor was currently drawing up detailed designs.

“I have been informed that they will mobilize to the Hiyaa flat area to begin practical works on the project in April, In Sha Allah,” he said.

President Muizzu added that the government will make the advance payment soon.

President Muizzu added that according to the terms of the agreement, the contractor is required to complete the project within one year after the commencement of the project.

But we will push them to finish it earlier, he said.

The project will see the installation of 32 additional elevators at the 16 towers – two for each tower. According to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the two new elevators at each tower will include one large enough to accommodate a stretcher.

The Hiyaa towers houses hundreds of people, and the shortage of elevators at the buildings often result in long queues. President Muizzu had pledged to install additional elevators there during his 2023 presidential campaign.
