President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged the Maldivian people to make good use of the last 10 days of Ramadan, and spend time in prayer and worship.

He made the appeal during Saturday’s episode of the Q&A series ‘Raeesge Javaab’.

President Muizzu said he decided to close government officers for the last 10 days of Ramadan to encourage night worship and ease the burden of having to go to work in the morning.

This marks the first time on record for the state to have closed offices and designated the final 10 days of Ramadan for worship in the 897 years since Maldives embraced Islam.

President Muizzu also decided last week to pay a special allowance to essential government employees who will be working during the period.

Other initiatives by the government for Ramadan includes implementing special measures to control the market price of food products, the distribution of Ramadan gifts such as flour and rice, and a discount on utility bills.
