Utilities in Ramadan billed based on average in standard months

Utility bills; will not exceed the usage cap of standard months--

Utility Regulatory Authority reports that water and electricity bills in Ramadan will be calculated based on the average usage rates in standard months.

The authority on Sunday said this decision echoes President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge of extending ease for locals during Ramadan, owing to comparatively higher utility usage during the month.

The average usage rate was arrived by deducting the usages in high-demand months including Ramadan last year, the authority added.

URA said it has advised all utility service providers to include the total billed amount for the month of March, discount in Ramadan, and average usage per month (during standard months) on the bills issued to customers

President Muizzu earlier announced the government's decision to cap utility bills on March 04th during his visit to Baa atoll Eydhafyushi.

"Utility bills will be capped at the same rate as a standard month, meaning electricity and water bills would not exceed that of standard months," President said during his rally at Eydhafushi.

State Electric Company (STELCO) is also expected to discontinue its MVR 30 charge on water services rendered in six islands.
