Magoodhoo public decide serial protests on stalled airport

Airport removed from Magoodhoo's jurisdiction--

Faafu atoll Magoodhoo island council on Sunday said its public has decided on a serial protest, to be held every evening, voicing frustration on the stalled airport project.

The decision of Magoodhoo public was corroborated by the island council's president Abdulla Waheed.

Waheed highlights the socio-economic importance of the airport for the public, and added the locals will proceed with peaceful demonstrations to voice their concerns over the delays in the airport's development.

"Especially since it is a significantly expensive project, the public do not wish for it to go to waste, that is also the primary goal of these protests," Waheed commented.

"This is about the public peacefully raising their voice. The public do not wish to create disturbance for the government," the council president added.

While the council earlier expressed concern over the airport's development facing delays, the project's contractor, MTCC said it had not ceased the operations.

MTCC further confirmed it was not informed by any official or relevant authority to stop the project as well.
