Fund from Maldives Zakat Fund will be utilized to donate food to Palestinians living in besieged Gaza.

Islamic Minister Dr. Shaheem Ali Saeed, in a post on X, announced efforts have been initiated under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s instructions to donate food for Palestinians through the Zakat Fund.

Sharing further information regarding the initiative, an official from the Islamic Ministry said works, in this trajectory, were proceeding at a fast pace within the Ministry.

The official, noting further details will be shared at a later time, expressed hope to deliver food as aid to Gaza as soon as possible.

Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on Gaza since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas back in October last year in which some 1,200 Israelis were killed.

More than 32,000 Palestinians have since been killed and over 74,000 injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

The war has pushed 85 percent of Gaza’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60 percent of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
