Govt collects MVR 4.4 m in Zakat on first 20 days of Ramadan

Maldives Zakat House has confirmed receiving a total of MVR 4.4 million in Zakat by the first 20 days of Ramadan.

A total of 109,200 individuals paid Zakat during this period, which include 63,389 individuals who paid Zakat in normal rice, that translates to MVR 760,668.

Another 3,028 people paid Zakat in Thailand-imported rice, that amounts to MVR 211,960. While 14,567 people paid in brown rice, amounting to MVR 1,019,690 in total, another 9,489 people paid in basmati rice which amounts to MVR 948,900.

Besides this, another 10,770 individuals paid Zakat in premium quality basmati rice which amounts to MVR 1,347,375.

In addition to rice, eligible Zakat payers had paid in flour as well. As such, 5,984 people paid Zakat in normal flour, which amounts to MVR 59,840.

A total of 1,224 individuals also paid with aata flour, which is equivalent to MVR 91,800.

Last year, Zakat House collected MVR 6.1 million in Zakat during the first 25 days of Ramadan.

The Ministry of Islami Affairs earlier announced Zakat will be accepted via online from March 11th until coming Saturday, April 06th.

Eligible Zakat payers may use Dhiraagu App, Dhiraagu Pay, Ooredoo m-Faisaa, FaisaaMobile, FahiPay and Bandeyri Pay to pay Zakat online.
