Maldives govt declares Wednesday first of Eid

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs on Monday, has announced this year's Eid-ul-Fitr will begin on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024.

The ministry announced this after the ceremony held for the moon sighting, and added that the moon was not sighted in any part of the Maldives on Monday's eve while subsequently confirming Tuesday will mark 30th of Ramadan.

Maldives government has announced festive celebrations for this year's Eid-ul-Fitr, for which the Local Government Ministry held a ceremony on Monday evening to light up the Greater Male' region with colorful festive lights.

Both Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Ad'ha prayers have been set for 07:00hrs on their respective dates, according to the ministry.

Festive celebrations of Eid holidays is a key promise of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who asserted Islamic practices will be given top priority under his government.

He added that the Muslim festive seasons would be celebrated vibrantly across the country based on the capability and readiness of the relevant island and city council bodies and other entities.
