Teen girl drowns in uninhabited island off Vilufushi

A teenage girl who went on a picnic to an uninhabited island near Th. Vilushi has died in a drowning accident.

The police identified the deceased as a 17-year-old girl. According to a police spokesperson, the authorities received report of the girl being transferred to the Vilufushi Hospital after the incident at around 12:45 pm on Wednesday.

Hospital officials confirmed the girl was already deceased when taken to the facility, said the spokesperson.

The incident is under investigation by the police.
