High Court overturns Yoosuf Naeem's conviction in Aarah case

The judges bench of High Court on Thursday, unanimously agreed to overturn the bribery conviction of Yoosuf Naeem in the lease of Vaavu atoll Aarah.

Earlier, Criminal Court found Naeem, the former Felidhoo MP, guilty of bribery in the same case involving former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The court sentenced Naeem with a guilty verdict on December 25th, 2022 on bribery charges, and sentenced him to jail for three years, two months and 12 days.

After days since the appeal hearing of the case in High Court concluded, its verdict was delivered by the upper court on Thursday afternoon.

The judges bench agreed several mistakes made in the case, and ordered the Criminal Court to reopen the case.

After delivering the verdict for Naeem, the court went into a recess of 30 minutes, and will reconvene again at 16:00hrs.
