Ahmed Naseer, who was serving as an advisor to Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeg, has been shifted to Foreign Ministry.

In this regard, Naseer has been designated Ambassador-at-large at the Foreign Ministry.

Naseer was appointed advisor to the finance minister on December 12th on ministerial-level. His responsibilities included advising the minister on financial matters.

Prior to this, Naseer has served as the governor of the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). He resigned from the post on July 24, 2019, after the parliament launched a probe into allegations that he had attempted to influence the operations of the MMA’s Financial Intelligence Unit.

Various changes have been brought to senior government posts after ruling party, People’s National Congress (PNC)’s supermajority win in the parliamentary elections held earlier this month. In this regard, Mohamed Fahumy Hassan, who was dismissed from his post as State Minister for Foreign Affairs has been reappointed to a post in the Ministry. His destination is unknown at the moment.
