Teen who traveled to Male’ on stolen boat handed over to family

The speedboat owned by Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives which was stolen on May 1, 2024.

Maldives Police Service, on Thursday, states the teen boy who traveled to Male’ on a stolen speedboat Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives, a resort located in Meemu Atoll, has been handed over to his family.

The 14-year-old boy from a central Maldivian island traveled to Male’ on the stolen speedboat reportedly on Wednesday, to meet his girlfriend, who lives in Hulhumale’.

Police, on Thursday, confirmed that the boy has been found, adding he has now been handed over to his family.

They did not disclose any further details regarding this case involving grant theft.

However, they noted that a 13-year-old girl was reported missing from Hulhumale’ Phase II on Wednesday. The teen girl was found safe later, the Police added.

The president of the council where the 14-year-old boy is from told Sun that he ran away from his home on Wednesday morning. He was suspected of stealing the boat after both he and the boat, which was docked at the island, disappeared.

A local who spoke to Sun said boy left home with his mother’s cash card, phone and some clothes.

The boat was later found in the lagoon area off the MTCC ferry terminal in Hulhumale’, a Police spokesperson reported Wednesday night.
