Police officer accused of blacking and extorting money from a student

Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation against one of its officers for allegedly blackmailing and extorting money from a nursing student.

A viral post on social media accuses a police officer of blackmailing and extorting money from a student studying nursing at Villa College.

It was inquired in the post whether there was an official or an authority that would investigate this case.

Commenting on the post, Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said the case is under investigation.

Shifan, noting the Police investigate complaints raised against officers in line with the relevant procedure, affirmed that the Police are undertaking efforts to verify the validity of such complaints and investigate them.

Shifan also urged to file any complaints against police officers with the authority itself.
