Visit to thalassemia patients on Sun Siyam Resorts anniversary

The staff of Sun Siyam head office visited thalassemia patients on the occasion of Sun Siyam Resort's 34th annivesary.

The visit was attended by the Minister of State for Health Aminath Shirna and the Public Health Coordinator of Maldivian Blood Services Faisal Ibrahim.

Sun Siyam head office staff had met with thalassemia patients on Wednesday, in commemoration of the World Thalassemia Day, to inquire about their health. The staff also gave gift hampers to each patient.

The company's Assistant Director, Chairman and Managing Director's Bureau, Fathimath Reena said since Sun Siyam Resorts' anniversary coincided with the World Thalassemia Day, the company felt pride in extending help to the community on the occasion.

She further highlighted the Group's Managing Director Ahmed Siyam Mohamed prioritized community empowerment and assistance.

"It is a primary focus of Sun Siyam Group to extend support to the community in education, to children, and to elderly citizens," Reena said.

"Under Sun Siyam, we had established the Sun Siyam Care with the aim of providing financial support for medical needs of the people in Male' and the atolls."

Each year, Sun Siyam Resorts host a special blood donation camp in commemoration of its anniversary and the World Thalassemia Day, which was hosted this year as well.

Azza Hameed, the Managing of Agriculture Department and the Coordinator of the Blood Donation Camp said, 459 blood donations were made in last year's camp, while the figure is expected to exceed 500 this year.

"Even now we are raising awareness across the resorts, while noting the names of donors. So, we are hopeful to achieve the target," Azza said.

She also highlighted the need for blood by patients every year, and stressed on the importance of hosting such camps.

Sun Siyam Resorts' Blood Donation Camp will kick off on Thursday, beginning with Sun Siyam Olhuveli with the camp progressing the remaining properties of the hotelier's portfolio and the head office in the following order;

  • Olhuveli
  • Siyam World
  • Sun Siyam Head Office
  • Iru Fushi
  • Iru Veli
  • Vilu Reef

The Public Health Coordinator of Maldivian Blood Services, Faisal Ibrahim stressed the blood donation camp organized and run by Sun Siyam Resorts every year helped the cause greatly, and thanked the company for its continued assistance.

"It is challenging to acquire blood for patients, but this should be treated as a civic responsibility. We remain joyous Sun Siyam Resorts organize and hold this camp each year," Faisal added.

A team from Maldivian Blood Services will visit each property under the Sun Siyam Resorts' portfolio for the camp.

Sun Siyam Resorts launched the camp first in 2015, and has been held annually with the exemption of the break during the Covid-19 pandemic.
