Repairs of the King Salman Mosque will incur MVR 6 million, said the Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed on Wednesday.

He said this at the press conference the ministry held Wednesday, and said the mosque was currently in need of immediate repairs.

The minister further said that the mosque had required fixing for some time now, which he attributed to the lack of proper maintenance of the air-conditioners.

"We are trying to fix the issues and the overall management of the mosque," the minister said.

Speaking about the repair cost, Dr. Shaheem said the government has facilitated the funds needed for the effort. He also added that the repair works will move expeditiously if the fund arrangements are finalized soon.

Dr. Shaheem had also revealed the ministry was discussing with Saudi Arabia's Islamic Ministry regarding the official opening of the mosque.

"We are working to open King Salman Center officially after Hajj," he added, noting the ministry was trying to invite a prominent Islamic figure from Saudi to officiate the mosque's official opening.
