Male' City Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) of the city have announced vibrant Children's Day festivities in the weekend.

At the council's Thursday press conference, the city's Mayor Adam Azim said their festivities will be dubbed "Family Eve", in a move to celebrate Mother's Day and Family Day together along with Children's Day.

The event is scheduled for 15:30hrs on Friday, May 10, 2024, with the mayor expected to officiate the festivities at 16:00hrs, and will run until 18:00hrs.

The festivities will resume after a two-hour break at 20:00hrs and will run until 22:00hrs.

The event will feature various activities including virtual reality (VAR) games, talent shows, face painting, and food stalls. Participation and entrance are free, the council confirmed.

Besides the activities, the festival will feature Boduberu, a stage show and other entertainment activities.

The council said it was hosting the festival to provide an environment for families to gather and share joyful moments with each other. Moreover, the WDC President Fathimath Shifa noted the secondary aim of extending gifts to the children who partake the event.

"Nowadays, they play games inside their rooms. So, WDC and the council intend on hosting similar festivals where children can gather for these games in person," Male' City Mayor said.

While the council is scheduled to host a children's festival on Friday afternoon, the Ministry of Social and Family Development will be hosting a similar festival in Hulhumale' in association with HDC and Ooredoo Maldives.
