Indian Navy Ship ‘IOS SAGAR’ has set sail for the Maldives.
According to Indian Navy, ‘IOS SAGAR’ commenced its voyage to Maldives from Port Victoria in Seychelles on Friday.
‘IOS SAGAR’ will be calling port in the Maldives as its last destination before returning to India.
The ‘IOS SAGAR’ arrived in Seychelles last Thursday, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing deployment across the South-West Indian Ocean Region.
The port visit included a series of professional and cultural engagements, such as cross-deck exchanges with a multinational crew, meetings with the Chief of Defense Forces and senior officers of the Seychelles Defense Forces (SDF) and discussions regarding cooperation in the field of maritime security.
Indian Navy Ship (INS) Sunayna was renamed IOS SAGAR and inaugurated on April 5th.
Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh today flagged off INS Sunayna as IOS SAGAR from Karwar, marking a new chapter in India’s commitment to Security & Growth for All in the Region (#SAGAR).

SAGAR, is an acronym for Security and Growth for All in the Region, a doctrine adopted by India for maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region in 2015 to deepen economic and security cooperation with its maritime neighbors and assist in building their maritime security capabilities.
IOS SAGAR’s 44 crew members are from nine Indian Ocean nations, including Maldives: Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania.
The crew members engage in training programs and maritime security operations aboard the ship.
Notably, India’s navy shop ‘INS Kochi’ called port in the Maldives last week, accompanying Maldivian Coastguard Ship Huravee which returned to the Maldives after undergoing repair works in India.
