Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu states the first school in Hulhumale’ Phase II initiated by current administration will be completed by this year’s November, adding physical works on two more schools will commence this year.
Foundation was laid for the new school, which will have the capacity to accommodate over 1,700 students, on December 25th, 2023.
The project contracted to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Private Limited (RCC) under the contractor finance model will see the development of 54 classrooms and other education-related facilities. The school is located near Hiyaa Tower 16.
During a ministerial questioning session at Monday’s parliamentary sitting, North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudoo), noting many students residing in Hulhumale’ Phase II still travel to Male’ for their education, inquired when this could be resolved.
In response, Minister Shafeeu said the former administration only developed a single school in Hulhumale’ Phase II – Salahudheen School – five years since the region was populated. He added that the current administration changed Salahudheen School to a double-session school in order to accommodate as many students as possible.
The Minister added that physical works on the school initiated by the current administration will be completed by this year’s November.
“By the will of Almighty, the 54-classroom school will be completed by this year’s November. I hope there is significant easement upon the completion of this school,” he said.
Speaking further, Minister Shafeeu said the development of two additional schools in Hulhumalé—one in Phase I and the other in Phase II – will commence this year, as pledged by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
He added that the second school will help bring an end to difficulties faced by students living in Hulhumalé Phase II, who currently have to travel to either Phase I or Malé for their education.
