Following the demise of renowned local religious scholar, Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sent message of condolence to his family on Monday.
Sun Online learned Sheikh Fareed passed away at a Malaysian airport, not long after he had arrived in the country.
Prior to his demise, it had not been confirmed the scholar had been terminally ill or not.
In his message of condolence posted on X, President Muizzu said he heard the news of Sheikh Fareed’s passing with great sorrow.
President Muizzu acknowledged the contributions made by the late Sheikh Fareed towards religious awareness, and praised the tireless efforts made by the scholar in providing religious knowledge to the public.
The Maldives head of state concluded his message while extending prayers to the late Sheikh, and said he wished for the Almighty to accept the sincere work carried out by Sheikh Fareed in providing religious knowledge and grant him paradise.
Sheikh Fareed is among the most notable religious scholars in the country and is known to pull in large crowds of people to his religious sermons. He was also active on social media providing contents on various religious matters, with his most recent video post about the importance of the day of Arafat.
He is also a notable figure in the democratic reform movement in the Maldives that saw the introduction of a multi-party system in the country.
