Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has appointed former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Fathimath Nilfa as the new Secretary General.
ACC had been looking for an individual to fill the role for nearly six months before it announced formal appointment on Sunday, June 15th.
She was the Permanent Secretary of the Tourism Ministry during the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)-led administration. She was appointed for the role on March 10, 2021 and stayed in that role until February 1 of last year.
Permanent Secretary is the highest civil service rank at government ministries.
While she resigned from her position at the ministry, she never specified the reason for this decision but cited it was owing to personal reasons without providing any other details.
The last Secretary General of ACC, Mohamed Saleem's term ended on December 4, 2024.
After Saleem's term expired, ACC first announced the vacancy on December 24 of last year, and re-announced again on January 15 this year after it failed to attract any interest applicants. A third announcement for the seeking an individual for the position was made later on April 8 this year.
The Secretary General's role at the ACC, for a term of five years comes with a total remueration of MVR 36,500 monthly.
