Nepalese champions Help Nepal (HNSC) had an easy win against Sri Lankan champions Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLP) on Tuesday, as league matches wrapped up in the CAVA Men’s Champions League – the biggest men’s club volleyball competition in central Asia.
In the second last match of the league round, which took place at the Social Center in Male’ on Tuesday evening, HNSC defeated SLP in three straight sets of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-23.
But the win was bittersweet for HNSC, as it put the club on level with Kyrgyzstani champions Bishkek in points, but at a disadvantage on set ratio. This meant that Bishkek traveled to the final as the second ranking team, while HNSC now have their eyes set on the bronze medal.
The match to decide the second runner-up of the tournament will be a rematch between HNSC and SLP. It will start at 04:15 pm Wednesday.
Later on Tuesday, Maldivian champions Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC) won against Club HDC in 3-2 sets, in the final match of the league round.
The match between the two clubs at the bottom of the table was a tight one.
DSC took the first set 25-22, while HDC took the second set 25-23. DSC took the third set 25-19, while HDC took the fourth set 25-19.
DSC took the deciding fifth set 16-14.
The match was treated as a ranking match, with DSC declared the fifth ranking club of the tournament.
The two Maldivian clubs had failed to put up a convincing performance during the tournament, with HDC ending the tournament with zero wins, while DSC’s only win was against HDC.
The final showdown of the CAVA Men’s Champions League will be between Kazakh champions Zhaiyk and Bishkek.
The match will start at 08:15 pm on Wednesday, and will be aired live by SSTV.
