Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka is scheduled to arrive in the Maldives on Monday for a state visit at the invitation of his Maldivian counterpart, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
President Disanayaka’s two-day state visit will span from Monday, July 28th to Wednesday, July 30th.
According to the President’s Office, during this visit, President Muizzu and President Disanayaka will hold official discussions to enhance cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka in mutually beneficial areas.
The visit would mark President Disanayaka’s first state visit to the Maldives since assuming office in September 2024.
Maldives and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations on July 26, 1965. As such, this year commemorates the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel paid a courtesy call on Dissanayaka during an official visit to Sri Lanka in February, during which he expressed the Maldivian government's interest in exploring new avenues to further strengthen the close bonds of friendship between the two countries.
Notably, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a two-day state visit to the Maldives, also at the invitation of President Muizzu. PM Modi will be attending the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebrations as the guest of honor.
