On Monday, the Ministry of Housing announced that three-room apartments, part of the 4,000 flats designated under the previous government's housing initiative, were allocated to recipients achieving a score of 76 marks. However, it has been observed that the lottery process was not uniformly applied to all individuals who met this criterion.

The Housing Ministry further announced on Monday that three-bedroom flats would be awarded to those who attained scores of 76 and above in the initial round. The remaining flats are designated for individuals who scored 75 marks in the first round.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure stated that during the draw conducted by the former government on November 16, 2023, for the allocation of flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme, some individuals who secured 76 points were not included in the drawing.

"Furthermore, while some candidates who achieved scores exceeding 76 were not allocated flats, certain candidates with scores above 75 were allocated flats through a lottery process," the ministry's announcement specified.

Consequently, the ministry has now resolved to prioritize a lottery draw for those who scored 76 marks. Individuals who achieved 75 marks on the previous government's flat list will be considered for flat allocation subsequent to the 76-point scorers.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had halted the allocation of flats to 4,000 eligible individuals towards the conclusion of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration. The interim government subsequently undertook a review of the list, releasing a revised version in February, more than a year later.

Following public criticism regarding a substantial number of disqualifications, Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib affirmed that the flats would be distributed based on the original list.

The government is currently engaged in the process of finalizing agreements with the flat recipients. This undertaking is being managed by the Ministry of Housing in collaboration with the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC). Recently, on Sunday, the Housing Ministry temporarily suspended the signing of certain flat agreements due to discrepancies identified in a list provided to the FDC.
