Rundown building collapses in Male’, damaging multiple vehicles

A rundown building located near the Buru Park playground in Male’ City partially collapsed on Saturday, damaging multiple vehicles parked nearby.

The collapse of the building, which once housed the Education Development Center (EDC), took place at around 01:00 pm Saturday.

According to police, the incident resulted in damages to the adjacent building as well as at least four vehicles parked in the area; two cars and two motorcycles.

But it did not result in any injuries.

The building that collapsed is currently vacant.

In addition to housing the EDC, it had also once been used by the Maldives National University (MNU)’s Islamic Studies Faculty to hold classes. The university stopped using the building for classes due to its rundown state.
