Verification of re-registration forms fingerprints will take 208 days, says police

Maldives Police Service has stated that it will take five minutes per form, a total of 208 days to verify an estimated 60,000 re-registration forms, submitted for the rerun of the presidential election.

Police said that it takes an average of 3 minutes to find a match with a fingerprint that exists on their database, and an average of 5 minutes to scan through their database entirely. Therefore, the police said that it will take them 5000 hours, or 208 days to run all fingerprints through the database, which translates to a 6 month period.

Elections Commission has said that they will verify a form if an issues is identified.

However, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Adhaalath Party are demanding all forms to be fully verified. Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Jumhoory Party (JP) have said that verification is unnecessary if no issue is identified and that it is understandable that it is impossible to verify all fingerprints.
