Authorities have started collecting the waste from the residential houses in Malé City at the Industrial Village.
Previously, the waste was being collected at a boat near the old waste disposal site. But starting tonight, the state has decided to collect the landing craft at the Industrial Village.
The waste management at the Industrial Village was officially inaugurated today by the Environment Minister, Thoriq Ibrahim and the Housing Minster, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Managing Director of the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), Ibrahim Fuad said that the waste collection point being moved to the Industrial Village would resolve a lot of problems facing the residents of the City due to the waste.
He said that the waste on the streets of Malé is the result of waste collecting without a system. As a solution to the problem, he said that vehicles that can properly carry waste would begin operating in the city on 25 December 2016.
Speaking at the ceremony today, the Environment Minister, Thoriq said that three landing crafts are being built to find a solution to a lack of a landing craft to carry the waste from Malé City and would be operational around May 2017.
The waste being collected at the Industrial Village would be loaded on to a truck and a landing craft.
