Dhivehi movie “Loodhifa” has won the award for best movie, taking home the most awards at the 7th National Film Awards held last Wednesday night.
The award for best movie was handed to Team “Loodhifa” by Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Iruthisham Adam.
The movie, written and directed by Moomin Fuad won total 10 awards.
Awards for Best Movie, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Song were all taken by Moomin Fuad.
Award for Best Actor was taken by Ismail Rasheed (Copy Isse) for his role in “Loodhifa”, while Mariyam Afeefa beat the reigning Best Actress, Mohamed Niuma, to take the Best Actress Award for her role in “Loodhifa”.
Afeefa beat Niuma, who was nominated for the award for her roles in two movies – “Sazaa” and “Mi Hashin Furaana Dhandhen” – bringing an end to her bid to win the award three-times in a row.
The awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress were also taken by cast of the movie “Loodhifa”; by Ravi Farooq and Fathimath Azeefa (Azu).
“Loodhifa” which topped the nominations list with 19 mentions from total 21 categories went on to win awards for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.
The movie “Ingili” which competed successfully in the SAARC Film Festival won no awards in the National Film Festival, despite its 12 nominations.
“Ingili” is a movie based on a screenplay by Mahudhy Ahmed, and directed by Ravi Farooq.
The 2013 movie “Fathis Handhuvaruge Feshun”, directed by Ali Shifau (Chippe) based on a story by author Binmaa Ibrahim Waheed won five awards; while the movie “Sazaa”, directed by Hussain Munawwar (Kudafoolhu) based on a screenplay by Mahudhy Ahmed won three major awards.
The 7th National Film Awards presented awards for Dhivehi movies released between 2011 and 2013.
11 feature movies and 6 short movies competed for the awards.
