Two MPs have been arrested at the rally marking three years since the journalist from Minivan News, Ahmed Rilwan went missing.
Police said that the rally held today is in violation of the law of freedom of peaceful protest and so the rally was dispersed.
The MPs taken into custody at the rally are the MP for south Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof and the MP for mid-Henveiru constituency, Ali Azim.
Police said that a total of nine people were taken into custody at rally today. No further details on those people were given.
When the police dispersed the rally, the banners and post up signs being used by the participants of the rally were confiscated and the police used pepper spray in the dispersal.
Journalist, Rilwan went missing on the night of 7 August 2014. He was last seen at the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal in Malé City.
While police did make arrests in relation to the disappearance, they were later released and now has left the country.
