Authorities seize MP Mustafa’s passport

Authorities have confiscated Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Mustafa’s passport, suspecting he may attempt to flee the country.

Mustafa is under investigation for allegedly calling out for the people to overthrow the President and inciting the people to commit unlawful acts overthrow the legitimate government of the country in an interview on RajjeTV on July 28.

Criminal Court issued the travel ban on Mustafa last Tuesday night, ruling that him leaving the country would impede the investigation into the case.

Police submitted video of his interview on RajjeTV and a script of his comments as evidence in requesting for the travel ban.

The police also submitted a report from the investigators as evidence Mustafa planned on fleeing the country.

The travel ban is for a period of three months, starting from last Tuesday, August 8.

Mustafa was summoned for questioning on August 7, but the summons was later cancelled.
