Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who was arrested under the suspicion of offering bribes and conspiracy to over throw thr government, has been transferred from Maafushi Jail to Dhoonidhoo detention center.
On 5 February, former President Maumoon was arrested at his residence, Maafannu Endherimaage, after the police breached the door. He was arrested and transferred to Dhoonidhoo that night.
President Maumoon's lawyer, Maumoon Hameed tweeted today saying that the police informed the former President's daughter, Yumna Maumoon, that the transfer had taken place.
Maumoon Hameed said that they were not informed of the transfer until 4:30 p.m.
While the former President Maumoon has been arrested after a state of emergency was declared, charges against him are bribing MPs, influencing judges to overthrow the government and offering bribes to judges to attain certain outcomes.
