Ventilator utilized to treat COVID-19 patient for the first time

A COVID-19 patient in the Dharumavantha Hospital is receiving treatment through a ventilator.

This is the first time a patient is being treated with a ventilator in the Maldives and IGMH’s senior doctor, Dr. Moosa Muraad confirmed the news to Sun. The doctor stated that an elderly Maldivian patient in Dharumavantha was being treated with a ventilator.

The doctor refrained from providing any personal information. However, it is understood that the patient is an 88-year old Maldivian male who was the husband of the first patient to pass away from the virus in the country.

A total of six people are being treated in the Dharumavantha Hospital’s DH11 facility which is designated to treat respiratory problems. Information obtained also indicates that another patient at the facility is in a serious condition.

Currently, those under treatment at the hospital are aged 88, 80, 70, 68, and 40.

The country confirmed eight cases of the virus today, with the national total at 527. A total of 18 people have made full recoveries after being infected with the virus.
